SOL Timeline Proposal

The student organization of Latinos & Hispanics, also known as SOL is a club at Slippery Rock University. SOL is a student-run organization that promotes and educates the Slippery Rock University community about Hispanic and Latin cultures. This is accomplished through events that include holiday celebrations, collaborating with other organizations on campus, general body meetings and other educational opportunities. Currently SOL runs some of the biggest events on campus including Day of the Dead, Cien fuegos, Hispanic Heritage month and recently Drag Bingo.

SOL has become that community for Hispanic and Latin students that want to look for a piece of home at Slippery Rock. In the 2019 census it was reported that 2.8% of the population at SRU is Hispanic. Not only does SOL provide a community for these Hispanic and Latin students but it also serves to educate and enrich the Slippery Rock community. Cultural diversity is a part of what makes US colleges and universities unique places for innovation, growth and success. In my project I will analyze the growth of this club throughout the decades. I am particularly interested in how the club was founded, who the founders were and how the club events have evolved.
